Ceramic Tile
With
the rise of Porcelain in popularity, here is a quick guide to what
porcelains are and what porcelain is not! A porcelain tile is defined as
a ceramic tile with an absorption rate of less than 0.5% . So, if you
soak a porcelain tile in water, it should never absorb no more than 0.5%
of its own weight in water. There are many tiles that claim to be
porcelain, so make sure yours meets this international standard for
Porcelain tile. Traditions in tile carries hundreds of porcelain tiles
in Ga, Sc, Nc, and Fl.
Glazed porcelain is the most common type of porcelain tile and is
typically an entry level tile. This type consists of an uncolored body
and glaze is then applied, along with any decorative applications such
as veining, shading, etc. The tile is then fired and the glaze becomes
one with the body of the tile forming a very durable top layer. The look
can be limitless, such as the look of slate, wood, stone, leather or
any number of looks.
Through body porcelain had color in the body of the tile. because the
color is the most costly part of the tile, through body, color-body,
porcelains are typically more expensive but the color will not wear
through because the color is all the way through. If your looking for
ceramic tile in Ga, then Traditions in tile has what you are looking
for.
Rectified porcelains are simply cut, or ground to exact size, on all
four sides. They can be either glazed, or color through body. Rectified
gives you the ability to use a much smaller grout joint than with
pressed tile.
Polished porcelains are run through polishing machine with wheels that
give the tile a high gloss, shiny, mirror look and can be semi polished
or fully polished.
